Caso y Bernal (1952: 342) sostienen que la vasija representa el dios mariposa y proviene de la cultura cuicateca. Véase ejemplar casi idéntico en Suecia (MEG 23.6.303), otra en Alemania (EMB 31107) y una pieza fragmentada en el Museo Frissell de Mitla (MFR 7410).
